Freeport- After her long courageous battle with cancer, Jeanette A. Marquis age 76 died Thursday May 13, 2010, surrounded by her children.
She had retired from L.L. Bean after 26 years of service. Prior to that, she had worked for many years in the local shoe manufacturing industry. After retirement she enjoyed many outdoor activities such as camping, four-wheeling and snowmobiling with her family. She also enjoyed riding motorcycles with her long time companion of 15 years Richard (Dick) Currier of Freeport.
She was a member of the Freeport Elders Association and spent time volunteering at the Center with whatever needed to be done.
She epitomized the meaning of hard work, courage and loyalty, never losing her sense of humor, always there with a smile, a joke and laughter. She was also known to never shy away from striking up a conversation with a total stranger.
She is survived by her four children, three sons and a daughter, which she considered her greatest gifts in life. William R. Marquis and wife Nancy of Freeport, Steven E. Marquis and wife Deborah of Portland, Bradley H. Marquis and wife Doris of Bowdoin and Brooke (Joyce) Marquis of Delray Beach, FL. Six grand children and six great grand-children.
A private family service will be held at graveside. A celebration of her life will be scheduled later this summer.
